In 1998, Louie & Kay Mendez established Komodo Artcrafts out of passion to work with teakwood classic design furniture. The wonderful, sturdy and all-weather solid wood had a market in the Philippines. They were not contented on picking out pieces already made from local suppliers, they set out to transform Komodo as the biggest Teak Furniture store in Manila, Philippines.
Durability, Natural Beauty and the Right to Feel and Enjoy Timeless Teak Furniture built by Komodo.
- We at Komodo are committed to delivering top quality furniture in classic designs to discerning clients who appreciate the beauty of natural wood.
- It is our belief that teakwood need not carry a steep price. Unlike in other parts of the world, teakwood commands a premium price since it is considered exotic and classified as hardwood.
- Komodo strives to produce teakwood products that are practical, multi-functional and most importantly cost-effective. Ultimately, the proof is in the reasonably priced product if one is to compare our products with those of lesser quality timber.
- Why buy cheap, throw away furniture? Invest in teak furniture that will outlive and outlast the rest. The pieces are carefully hand-made using traditional ways of manufacturing furniture.
- Test teak’s toughness – during the recent typhoon Ondoy’s fury in Metro Manila, clients and friends informed us that our teak furniture withstood floodwaters. Some even floated but damage was very minimal – needed to be cleaned and refinished. Overall, its sturdiness held it together!
Then Komodo Artcrafts, initially started as a single proprietor business to Import and Retail Teak Furniture in Manila, Philippines. It was established on August 1998. It was operated by a husband and wife team each with his/her specialty in selling & production. The first store was located on a in Palanan, Makati.
A facility was contracted in the province of Surabaya, Indonesia to handle production of its pieces. From time to time, we entertained special orders and brought in art pieces from Indonesia to decorate the homes of friends and special customers.
Now The business has experienced steady growth thus we found the need to transfer from our small shop in Makati to a bigger warehouse store in Pioneer Street, Mandaluyong. We wanted to showcase our much larger collection. On July 2001, we incorporated as Komodo Artcrafts, Inc. We introduced additional product lines for a one-stop shop approach for our Personal and Institutional clients. To highlight, there are now over 250 different furniture designs on Teakwood and other exotic Indonesian wood, flooring, and decking.
Shortly after opening our big store, we needed to establish a second store in Makati City to make it easier for our Makati and South of Manila clients to enjoy our products. We are proud to say that today our teak furniture graces homes in almost all exclusive villages, condominiums and vacation spots in the Philippines.
We value Custom Order Over the years, we have developed a significant presence in the custom-order market. On most product lines, we have no minimum order quantity. All we require form our clients are pictures or drawings if available. If you catch our shipments on time, your special product will be with you in no time at all.
